The images in this exhibition are from the ongoing suite of paintings inspired by the spectacular environment of Gros Morne National Park on the west coast of Newfoundland, where I had the good fortune of being Artist in Residence in 1998, and where I have since established a summer studio.

On one level, my subject matter is the dramatic landscape of the Park area, including its many changing light and weather conditions as well as the iconic structures for which the Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On another level, the landscapes function as armatures on which to hang colour, and these paintings, and the serial imagery with which I have chosen to work, are also “about” colour and colour relationships. My goal has never been realism or illusion, but to offer my personal interpretation of the subject, and to provide pleasure to the viewer.
